CHFP Certification Requirements

• One year of HFMA membership is required to take the examination.
• Successful completion of patient accounts, managed care, or finance examination, and examination on a core body of knowledge that is central to all areas of healthcare financial management.
• Meeting certification requirements:
• 60 semester hours of college or equivalent
• 2 years of regular membership in HFMA
• 2 years of professional experience in healthcare finance or a related field
• 40 Founders Award points earned over a maximum of three years
• 2 character references: one professional, one from chapter leadership (current officer or director)
• Apply for certification as a CHFP

• Have achieved certified status in HFMA
• Have a reference from either a Fellow in HFMA or a chapter leader (current officer or director)
• Have earned a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
• Have achieved five years of regular or advanced membership in HFMA
• Have earned at least 200 points from the following schedule
• Founders Awards - One point per Founders Award point earned
• Specialty Certifications - 40 points for each additional specialty certification earned. For example, if you have earned both the CMPA and CMCP certifications, you have an additional 40 points towards the requirement.
• Education
• 50 points for earning a BA or BS or equivalent at an accredited college
• 75 points for earning a Masters degree or equivalent at an accredited college
• 100 points for earning a PhD, JD, or equivalent at an accredited college
• NOTE: A maximum of 100 points may be earned in this manner
• Apply for certification as a Fellow
